Dr. Carlson has been at the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System since 1995 and he has served as the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Research since 2010. He is a Research Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Utah. He received his PhD from the University of Arizona and trained as a post-doctoral fellow at Duke University prior to coming to Utah. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for WIVR since 2006. Dr. Carlson credits WIVR as an important contributor to his career development after having received one of their pilot research grants early in his career that helped him to get his first VA grant. He takes great pride in being able to serve on the board for WIVR to help advance research to improve medical care for our Veterans.
